Angelo CanaleThe Prosecutor General of the Corte dei conti is Angelo Canale.

Mr. Angelo Canale was born on October 19, 1953, he is married and father of one.

After classical studies at the High School, he graduated with honors in Law from the Law School of the University of Rome in 1978.

In 1974, during his university studies, he was already an Army Officer and, in 1977, he won a competition becoming Officer in permanent service in the “Corpo Agenti di Custodia”.

Mr. Canale became a judge at the Corte dei conti on March 1st, 1986 and, at the beginning, he served at the Regional Audit Chamber for Friuli Venezia Giulia.

In 1987, he served as Assistant Prosecutor General at General Prosecutor’s Office.

He has carried out public prosecution functions both at first instance and appeal and has gained long and significant experience. In 1990, he was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General and in 1991, he became the first Regional Prosecutor at the new established Regional Prosecutor’s Office for Calabria.

From 2011 he has served as Regional Prosecutor in Tuscany and from 2014 as President at the Jurisdictional Chamber for Umbria. From 2016, he has worked as President at the III Jurisdictional Chamber of Appeal.

Before becoming Prosecutor General, he has served as President at the II Jurisdictional Chamber of Appeal from March 2020. During his career, he has been delegate for the audit on financial management of important state-owned undertakings, pursuant to Article 12 of Law no. 259/1958.

He has also been a member of the United Chambers for Advisory Functions.

Mr. Canale has edited several books on the new accounting proceeding before the Corte dei conti; he authored many scientific publications and lectured at conferences on accounting jurisdiction with regard to the role of the accounting public prosecutor. He has been lecturer on the same topics.

He has worked as Legal Adviser and Head of Department at the Presidency of the Council of the Ministers. He has served as Adviser to High Commissioner for the fight against mafia and as President of several Committees for Guarantee and Board of Auditors. He has been a member of the Committee which has developed the Code for Accounting Justice (Legislative Decree no. 174 of 2016).

He is Grand Officer of the Order of merit of the Italian Republic.
